Hot iron, no steam, through a thin cloth, about ten seconds of firm pressure, then let the garment cool completely before handling it. A few stitches at the corners make it last noticeably longer through the wash.

Which fabrics aren’t suitable for iron-on patches?

Anything that can’t take the iron: thin synthetics, waterproof fabrics, leather, very open knits. On these materials, sewing is the only method that holds without damaging the fabric.
